The Easy To Understand Guide To Laser Cutting
Updated: Apr 18, 2020
Many sheet metal fabrication processes rely on tools that apply high mechanical forces on the material.
Lasers, however, are different. They can cut the material without even touching it.
In this video, we created hole patterns in a very short period of time using a laser cutting machine.
Cutting a Wide Range of Materials
So, the kinds of material that can be cut are and the maximum thickness that can be cut :
Mild Steel - 25mm
Stainless Steel - 25mm
Aluminum - 20mm
Copper - 10mm

Advantages of Laser Cutting :
Almost any shape can be cut using a single tool.
Lasers cut the material without actually touching it.
One machine can process a wide variety of sheet thicknesses from 0.5mm to 25mm.
Laser cutting is very precise and fast, while producing a small kerf.
The material next to the kerf is heated slightly, which prevents the parts from becoming warped.
Lasers are able to produce high-quality cut edges with minimal roughness and without burrs. This means that burrs no longer need to be removed.
Other materials that can be cut (but not in the photo) are:
Galvanized Iron
Black Iron
Titanium
